Shade
"Your eyes feel a whole lot better..."
Shade is a gray wolf Raytraxian with black, transparent sunglasses. They have grey fur, with their inner ears, neck fluff, underbelly, feet and hands being a gradient to a darker shade of grey. Their arms and legs have curved, neon green stripes on the outer sides. They also have green paws and markings.
Their eyes are colored green, with a white ring inside. VIP Shades appear the same, except for the large Video Camera tool they can equip.
Shade is considered a counterpart of Fed due to their many similarities.
Abilities
Sunglasses Drop (Death)
Shade drops its sunglasses upon death for any unsuspecting Human players to walk on and become converted, though humans wearing a hazmat suit cannot pick up the sunglasses, saving them from the conversion.
Bounty/Boost (VIP Only)
VIP Shades can be killed for 100 Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination immediately after they spawn. For each second that the VIP is alive, an additional 1 Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination is added to their total worth.
Moreover, VIP Shade will apply a 1.5x Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination multiplier to itself and nearby Raytraxians within a limited range, awarding them with extra credits per each convert.
Video Camera (VIP Exclusive)
The Video Camera tool is exclusive to VIP Shades, it currently serves as a cosmetic only.
Acquirement
Shade can be obtained by walking over sunglasses or by getting converted by another Shade Raytraxian, although they won't have glasses to wear.
There is a 1/30 (3.3%) chance of becoming its VIP variant. This chance becomes more likely depending on your Kill Streak, maxing out at a 1/2 chance at 60 kills. When you wear the sunglasses, the following text will pop up:
- "Your eyes feel a whole lot better..."
- "Very cool.."
Bestiary Entry

Similar to the Fed, this Raytraxianis wolf like, has bright green eyes, and is wearing a pair of fake, rubber like shades. This raytrax developed the same way the Fed did, but in a more safer space, a breakout in the staff lounge. Surprisingly the breakout was quickly stopped, as Shades were shown to be, though a little less intelligent than Feds, a lot nicer (though equally as dangerous). Shades show more respect for humans and more so curiosity. They are extremely protective, and work as good guards. While this specimen has not shown any aggression as of writing this log, please do not just randomly give security sunglasses in hopes of them "lightening up". |
Trivia
- When a Raytraxian knocks the sunglasses off your head, the text "The glasses were knocked off your head!" would pop up.
- Shade's grab face was modified in v3.1 due to looking similar to the Fed's grab face.
- It is possible to get a VIP Shade from dropped sunglasses, even if its from another VIP.<ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/858029724664463400/1049378674291523604/bronze_droppedaccessories.png Statement from developer Bronze for dropped shutter shades, headphones. Fedoras and sunglasses most likely apply to this as well.</ref> They all remain at the same chance of 1/30.
- If you use the Overseer machete skin and kill a Shade that has sunglasses on, the sunglasses will turn invisible, making it act like an invisible "landmine".
- This also happens with the "Batsaber" and "Overseen" bat skins.
- This applies to other Raytraxians that also drop a transmogrifying item after death.
- Originally, Shades without sunglasses had an unique idle animation, resembling the one seen in the Shades with sunglasses, but without the arms crossed together. It was removed in mid-2022 for unknown reasons.
- Shade has an unique idle animation, showing it with its arms crossed together.
- In the Shade's Bestiary icon when hovered, its eyes are "partially" seen, as it is instead pulling the sunglasses down.
Bugs
- There was a minor bug in which Shade's death face did not show upon dying, instead showing its low HP face.
- This bug also occurred with Night Shade, Jammer, and Fed.
