"You feel as if you are invincible..."

Template:Gootraxian Nightcrawler is a Blackout-exclusive Gootraxian in Kaiju Paradise.

It is a lizard Gootraxian, being mostly grey colored with black leaf-like or scar-like patterns on its ears and limbs. It has unique purple patterns on the front of its torso and the bottom of its tail that glow during blackouts. It has a pair of 3-lens night vision goggles that glow, adorned with a waist belt of satchels and a blowtorch along with a pair of gloves.

Abilities

Unlike any other Gootraxian seen in the game, it has two unique moves: Pummel and Pursue.

Pummel

Pummel works similar to a katana. It is a 'combo'-like type of ability, allowing Nightcrawlers to attack survivors 3 times in quick succession with the last attack having a slightly longer cooldown. Unlike the Katana however, it will not slow the Nightcrawler down. During Blackouts, the last attack will dash the Nightcrawler forward.

Pummel's Statistics
Stat Value
Damage 23
Cooldown 0.75 seconds
Combo Cooldown 2.75 seconds
Effects Dash (BO), Combo

Rage

Exclusive to Goggled Nightcrawlers, they have a "Rage" system where they need to keep a rage bar above 0% by fighting or else they start losing HP.

To have Passive Regeneration, the rage bar need to be kept above 200%, On Blackouts it need to stay above 400%.

You can have a maxumum of 400% rage while there's no Event or Power Outage, 600% during a Blackouts.

Nightcrawler will have a faster passive regeneration rate of 1.25 HP per second if he is above the required percentages.

Pursuing will withdrawn 100% from the rage bar upon activation.

While rage bar is active, Lost Judgment OST - "Fog" from Lost Judgment's Soundtrack is played in the background.

Pursue

Pursue is the Nightcrawler's signature move. The ability has a 30 second cooldown.

Pursue is divided into three stages. First, is the preparation stage, where the Nightcrawler slams their fists into the ground, ragdolling nearby survivors. Shortly after, the second stage begins, where the Nightcrawler begins to sprint wherever the camera is facing. You cannot control its movements in this state and can only move your camera around to guide it. If it collides against a survivor, it will damage, knockback, and ragdoll them. The survivor will act as a projectile and damage anyone that gets hit by them. During the duration of Pursue, if the Nightcrawler collides into a door, it will break the door and maintain its sprint, regardless if the door is a sliding door, button door, or a bathroom door. The only doors the Nightcrawler are unable to break are the gates located outside of the cafe and in the garden hall. Broken doors will respawn after 60 seconds.

Near the end of the pursue, the final stage begins, in which the closest survivor in a certain radius of the Nightcrawler is grabbed by the neck, lifted off the ground and punched away, dealing heavy amounts of damage as well as ragdolling the survivor and any nearby player. If a survivor dies to the pursue, they will not be turned into a Nightcrawler and will instead die and eventually respawn near the Shop area, as if the player reset or was killed as a Gootraxian. If there are no nearby players during the duration of this stage, the Pursue will simply expire.

Pursue's Statistics
Stat Value Stat Value
Preparation Stage 4.25 seconds Slam Damage 13
Pursue Stage 3.5 seconds Trample Damage 20
Grab Stage 4 seconds Grab Damage 61
Shortest length of Pursue 7.75 seconds Full length of Pursue 11.75 seconds
Effects Non-infectious, Knockback

Health Buff

Goggled Nightcrawlers have a huge health pool of 800 HP, however, they cannot regen naturally, only healing 20 damage upon infection during Blackouts and 10 otherwise. Nightcrawlers can only heal through infecting with Pummel or keeping their rage meter above a certain amount.

Retaliate (Passive)

Upon losing 100 health under 1.5 seconds, Nightcrawler will stomp on the ground, sending nearby players into a ragdoll and dealing 12 damage. Retaliate requires 15 rage to activate. This attack is currently non-functional; however, a fix is in the works.

Block (Blackout Passive)

During Blackouts, fireaxes, bottles and scythes will be dodged, yielding the text "Seems like they managed to evade your axe/scythe swing..", and reducing the damage dealt by 90%, resulting in both the fireaxe and scythes dealing a meager 4 damage. Attempting to hit Nightcrawlers with a bottle will deal a pitiful 1 damage, yield the text "There's no effect..", and ragdoll the attacking player, dealing 30 damage in retaliation. Attacks evaded will not slow the Nightcrawler nor ragdoll them.

Goggle-less Nightcrawlers do not have the same unique abilities as a goggled Nightcrawler and will instead have 110 HP along with the standard Gootraxian abilities (grab & attack). However, they will still retain the ability to passively evade the axe, scythe and bottle.

Acquirement

Nightcrawler can be obtained by finding a pair of goggles around the map.

The goggles can only spawn randomly around the map during Blackouts next to or nearby weapon and item spawns with a 60% chance in public servers per event. It is always guaranteed to spawn in private servers.

If the goggles are to spawn, they will do so 6 minutes and 15 seconds into a Blackout; otherwise referred to as the beat drop of the 2nd song.

You can also obtain it by being infected by another Nightcrawler Gootraxian, but you will not have the goggles.

Trivia

  • Nightcrawlers are one of the only few Gootraxians who can outright kill survivors.
    • In this case, they can do so by using their Pursue ability.
  • It is the second Gootraxian in the game that doesn't have the usual abilities such as grab & attack, the first being the Slime Pup.
    • Nightcrawlers without goggles will have the standard abilities, however.
  • The only weapons that can ragdoll Nightcrawlers during Blackouts are bricks and the golden bottle.
  • Oddly enough, Pursue's ability to break doors also applies to locker doors. In the past, it would play the animation, but the door would still remain intact. This has since been changed to break the doors.
  • If you use :tf me nightcrawler in private servers, you will transform into a goggle-less Nightcrawler.
    • This can be changed by including ;goggle=true on the initial command.
  • Goggled Nightcrawlers have the highest health pool out of all Gootraxians, excluding Diamond Slime variants, with a total of 800 HP.
  • Nightcrawler is the only Gootraxian so far to have appeared in the game's thumbnail despite having not been released for the time it appeared.
  • They were heavily inspired by the Cloaker from the Payday franchise.
    • In previous versions of the game, using the command ;cloaker=true on par with Nightcrawler's :tf command in private servers gave the Nightcrawler Cloaker's voice lines.
    • Additionally, its festive outfit bears strong resemblances to the Cloaker's outfit.
  • Nightcrawler's faces were slightly different when it was still unreleased.
  • It is currently the only known Gootraxian to have more than one contributor create its concept.<ref>https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/858029724664463400/1001441391488020580/ooo_spooky_lizard.png Each contributor's contribution to Nightcrawler, March 3 2022.</ref>
    • ButteredPancakes made its initial design.
    • Mysticalesta created its concept art.
    • Kos assisted in its design.
    • Kazuko gave the idea of its species.
    • Chroma suggested its current name.
      • According to one of the contributors, its design is heavily inspired and based on Salazzle from the Pokémon franchise.
  • Goggled Nightcrawlers are one of the only few Gootraxians whose Bestiary entry is unlocked right after infection, and is also one of few Gootraxians who have multiple ways of unlocking its Bestiary entry.
    • A Goggle-less Nightcrawler has to obtain a 10 infect streak in order to unlock its Bestiary entry.
    • Players can kill the Goggled Nightcrawler to unlock its Bestiary entry.
      • Only the player that landed the last hit on it will unlock it if they do not already have it, however.
  • Despite Goggled Nightcrawlers being considered a mini boss, they still drop 30 credits upon death.
  • Similarly to Jammer's Diversion having Feizao and Fashui's Slippery tooltip at one point, Nightcrawler's Pursue used to share the same tooltip as Protogen and Dark Protogen's Self Destruct.
  • Hovering over the Nightcrawler's icon in the bestiary repeatedly will play the Nightcrawler's Pursue sound effect, as well as cause its icon to violently shake.
