Night Shade
"Your eyes feel pretty weird...”
Template:Gootraxian Night Shade is a gray wolf Gootraxian that wears purple shutter shades. They are the Blackout variant of Shade.
Like Jammer, they are similar in appearance to Shade and Fed, but they have purple markings instead of green stripes that glow purple when a Blackout is active. Their markings are also thicker and shorter length-wise in comparison to Shade.
Also like Jammers, they have a VIP variant, which look like regular Night Shades, but have a rainbow glow in Blackouts. During Power Outages, they instead glow a light coral color, regardless of their variant.
Abilities
Increased Health (Passive)
Night Shade has an increased health of 110 HP.
Shutter Shade Drop (Death)
Like its counterparts, Night Shades drop their shutter shades upon death, which removes the glowing effect until a survivor walks on it. This can surprise any unsuspecting players who happen to walk on it and become infected.
Wear & Stare
They can remove and pull down their summer shades using the Wear tool, which are for cosmetic purposes only. They also have the Stare tool to stare patronizingly at any player, with each movement being accompanied by a "boom" sound. This is purely cosmetic.
Boombox (VIP Only)
Exclusive to VIP Night Shades, they have a boombox that can play music and also serves as a cosmetic only.
Acquirement
Night Shade can be acquired by walking over or obtaining purple shutter shades during Blackouts, or infection by another Night Shade Gootraxian, although you won't have the shutter shades. It takes about 20 seconds to be infected after putting on the shutter shades.
VIP Night Shades can be obtained with a 1/30 chance of becoming one. Alternatively, you can use the command :tf me Nightshade;VIP=true
in private servers.
When wearing the shutter shades, the following text will pop up,
- "Your eyes feel pretty weird..."
- "Goofy.."

Trivia
- Some of Night Shade's faces were modified on V3.1.<ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/510886407770734645/992725895196463225/unknown.png Update log mentioning Night Shade's (including Shade and Fed's) faces, December 15 2021.</ref>
- The music that plays on VIP Night Shade's boombox is Aging, composed by Fishcracks.
- As of now, the track has been removed and replaced with JAMS VIP due to pressure from the community to upload Aging as an official track, and the composer disliking the music as a whole.<ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/510886407770734645/992725895494250537/unknown.png Reason for Aging's removal, in #questions, February 22 2022.</ref>
- Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to get a VIP Night Shade from dropped shutter shades, even if its from a VIP,<ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/858029724664463400/1049378674291523604/bronze_droppedaccessories.png Statement from developer Bronze for dropped shutter shades, headphones.</ref> and outside of Blackouts.<ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/858029724664463400/1049378674987761694/blaxor_outsideBO.png Statement from head developer Blaxor for obtaining VIP outside of Blackouts</ref><ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/858029724664463400/1049378674656415795/bronze_outsideBO.png Additional confirmation from developer Bronze.</ref> They all remain at the same chance of 1/30.
- The Stare tool is a reference to The Rock's Eyebrow Raise (LOUD WARNING) meme.
- There is a bug that quickly lessens the stare cooldown by equipping grab then equipping stare once more.
- Similarly to the VIP Jammer animation bug, users were able to replicate VIP Night Shade's Boombox animation by typing the command
/e shadejamming into the chat.
- An existing bug allows players to obtain Night Shade shutter shades without a Blackout active. When a survivor wearing a pair of Shade glasses is hit with "Attack", the shades are knocked off and transformed into Night Shade shades.
