"Something is coming.."

Template:Gootraxian Panthers are feline Gootraxians available primarily during Blackouts. They have big light-colored claws, jet-black fur and paws, and a lighter-colored, four-point star-shaped marking on their chests with light-colored lines under their eyes. Their eyes glow yellow during Blackouts and Power Outages, unless they are at low HP, wherein, they will glow red instead. During this event, while moving, Panthers will leave a yellow, or red, trail from their eyes.

Panthers also possess a unique grab animation where they appear to be choking the player they are currently holding.

Abilities

Increased Health

They are also slightly bulkier than other Gootraxians, with a total of 130 HP.

Prepare

Panthers can also prepare during Blackouts and Power Outages, which allows them to highlight survivors through walls around the map for a brief period of time.

Scythe Block (Passive)

They have a varying chance of completely blocking scythe attacks depending on the current map state. If there is no map event, it is a 50% chance. During Power Outages it is a 70% chance, and during Blackouts it is an 85% chance.<ref name="source1"></ref>

Upon blocking a scythe attack, they will take only 14 damage at the cost of being slowed temporarily instead of ragdolling. <ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/858029724664463400/992232514976481280/MORE_MUSCULAR_PANTHERS.png Update Log for scythe block causing 1/2.5 damage, August 26 2021.</ref>

Claw

Panthers are capable of actually killing the survivor players by using their claws, in which hits are accompanied with a unique slashing effect.<ref name="source1">https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/858029724664463400/992231994018766898/muscular_panthers.png Update log of HP buff and scythe block passive, December 21 2021.</ref>

Rage (Passive)

When a panther is at low HP, their rage ability will activate, causing their eyes to glow red. This greatly reduces Claw's cooldown, but comes at the cost of reduced damage dealt.

Claw's Statistics
Stat
Value
Damage 15, 8 (during rage)
Cooldown 1.35 seconds (default); 0.32 (Rage)
Effects Non-infectious

Screen Blur

When a Flashlight is used on a Panther, the text "The light from the flashlight irritates your eyes." will appear on the Panther's screen and slowly blur their vision until they are far enough away from the light. Additionally, the glow from a Chocolate Sprinklekit's eyes will also blur their vision, oddly enough.

Rare Item Drops

Upon death, they have a small chance (12.5%) to drop a Panther Bombarder. They may also drop Strange Crystals, but, much like Carnelines and Kaiju, the chance of dropping a Strange Crystal also depends on how high the Panther's infect streak was before dying, the higher the streak, the higher the chance. A Strange Crystal will only have the potential to drop after 3 infects, and is guaranteed to drop at 20 infects or more.

The chance for the Strange Crystal works as so:

<math>12 + [(Streak - 3) * 3.75], 12 = Random</math>

<math>Random</math> = Generated number from 0 - 100, effectively operates the percentage chance.

<math>Streak</math> = Player's current infection streak. It must be 3 or higher to have any chance to drop a strange crystal. <ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/858029724664463400/992228955224551435/crystal_math.png Strange Crystal drop rate formula, December 19 2021.</ref>

Acquirement

Panthers can be obtained via infection through the large, white crystals in the Crystal Caves during a Blackout or by being infected by another Panther Gootraxian.

Trivia

Ouch.
  • Panthers are one of the only few Gootraxians who can outright kill survivors.
    • In this case, they can do so by using their claws.
  • It was released alongside its own event on V3.0.<ref>https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/858029724664463400/992233104242659438/bo_gootrax_real.png Update log of Panther's (and other Blackout Gootraxians) release, July 4 2021. </ref>
  • Panthers' design was inspired by the Flying Wyvern Nargacuga from Monster Hunter.
  • Its custom fur meshes were made by Ronin.
  • At one point, there was a bug that caused Panther's Rage ability to lower the damage of Claw, but not the cooldown.
  • If a Slime Pup attempts to ride on Panther's back, the Panther will grab and slam them off their back, dealing 45 damage as well as being accompanied with a variety of humorous sounds.
    • Panthers are the only Gootraxian that have this ability.
      • Panther is getting removed in 3.2 due to its creator wanting to disassociate with KP/TFE.
