⭐ Gootraxian created by: Mysticalesta
Panthers are a Blackout-exclusive community-designed Gootraxian created by Mysticalesta.
They are feline creatures with jet-black fur and a lighter-colored, four-point star-shaped marking on their chests. Their eyes glow yellow during Blackouts and Power Outages, unless they are sitting at low HP wherein they will glow red instead.
Panthers also possess a unique grab animation, where they appear to be choking the player they are currently holding.
They have a small chance (12.5%) to drop a Panther Bombarder upon death. They may also drop Strange Crystals, but much like Carnelines and Kaiju, this chance increases depending on the infect streak of the individual that was killed. A Strange Crystal will not drop if the Panther that was killed did not infect anybody.
The chance for the Strange Crystal works as so:
<math>12 + [(Streak - 3) * 3.75], 12 = Random</math>
<math>Random</math> = Generated number from 0 - 100.
<math>Streak</math> = Player's current infection streak. It must be 3 or higher.
Abilities
Panthers are currently the only Gootraxians in the game capable of actually killing human players using their claws. The cooldown for this action is reduced while they are at low HP. They are also slightly bulkier than other Gootraxians, with a total of 130 HP<ref>https://discord.com/channels/786788486887768135/821381992779218955/922713914951757856</ref>. Panthers can also prepare during Blackouts and Power Outages, which will allow them to detect humans through walls around the map for a short period of time.
They have a varying chance of completely blocking scythe attacks depending on the current map state. If there is no map event, it is a 50% chance. During Power Outages it is a 70% chance, and during Blackouts it is an 85% chance<ref>https://discord.com/channels/786788486887768135/821381992779218955/922713914951757856</ref>.
Upon blocking a scythe attack, they will take less damage than normal at the cost of being slowed temporarily instead of ragdolling.
Acquirement
Panthers can be obtained via infection through the large, white crystals in the cave or infection from another Panther Gootraxian.
Bestiary Entry
"Dubbed the balance-keepers of the cave, Panthers are wild, feral Gootraxians that prowl the facility during Blackouts, using their long, hooked claws and keen senses to stalk the caves they dwell in and seize any unfortunate prey they may find.
These Gootraxians are extremely agile, having developed uniquely long limbs to move unhindered quadrupedally and bipedally. When enraged, specialized circulatory vessels around their eyes fill with blood, causing them to glow red, and the fur on their tails puffs out and becomes sharp and quill-like. While quite rare to see in person, Panthers may sometimes hunt Slime Pups for sustenance.
Keep an eye on the crystals in the cave when blackouts occur."
Trivia
- Aside from Slime Pups, they are the only Gootraxians who can actually kill human players without infecting them by using their claws.
- Panthers' design was inspired by the Flying Wyvern Nargacuga from Monster Hunter according to their creator, Mysticalesta.
